3rd Coast was first imagined in the summer of 1995 and was named over a campfire on a starry night in a northern Michigan woods. It's ironic that we conceived a high tech business in the lowest tech place we could find - but that's where it happened. Listening to the crackling of a campfire and the whistles and croaks of the night creatures we talked about this fledgling phenomenon called the Internet, and what we thought it might become. Needless to say, it went way beyond what we first imagined - probably because it was a platform that allowed millions of people to create their vision of what's needed, what's useful, and what's entertaining. Everyone was invited into the "sandbox to play." And boy, did we play! It's been said that the Internet is the next great "Age" after the Industrial Age. It has so revolutionized our communication and how we function that nothing will ever be done in the same way again. Many of us have felt this change and are feeling a lot of pressure to keep up. The generalists of the web will soon split to the specialists as the rate of information is moving too quickly for any of us to be experts at it all. 3rd Coast is reflecting this trend.
